The Statistics

  • 9.2% of Fort Wayne households do not own a vehicle
     

  • 6% of adults reported the lack of reliable transportation kept them from work or daily activities
     

  • 39% of chronically absent high school students reported transportation as a factor

The Program

  • Over 200 individuals each year complete a 6 week educational program teaching individuals how to repair and maintain a bicycle
     

  • Area bicycle experts volunteer as program instructors and mentors
     

  • Participants build necessary life skills that translate into job skills

The Outcome

  • Participants receive a graduation certificate, giving a sense of accomplishment
     

  • Graduates are given a bicycle upon completion ensuring they have reliable transportation
     

  • Program volunteers serve over 2500 hours each year helping to mentor and build skills for those in the program

The Vision

  • Expand the annual number of program graduates
     

  • Increase our inventory of new or gently used bicycles
     

  • Grow the Operation Bicycle Stock Room with additional chains, breaks, gears, tires & tubees​
